Yerevan Gastrotrip

Culture
is in
the
cuisine

This private walking food tour is a sampling of Armenian cuisine that covers the basics, the staples, the musts, the greatest hits of a truly international country and people. Following an expert storytelling guide, you’ll stop at 6 of the best eateries in Yerevan and try 6 carefully selected dishes that tell the story of the Armenian people. You’ll learn all sorts of information, like why Armenians break bread by hand (and never with a knife) or how to properly wrap cheese and greens in bread, a favorite Armenian snack.

Along the way, you’ll also learn more about Yerevan, country capital and cultural melting pot – in English, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian, or Armenian.

About the
Yerevan Gastrotrip

I have travelled the world in search of unique food experiences. Prior to the tour I had some familiarity with the Armenian kitchen, but in reality I knew very little about the variety and deliciousness of Armenian cuisine. I highly recommend this tour.

Transforming the lives of both travelers and local people through meaningful and responsible experiences is why we do what we do at 2492. We believe that Armenia can be a wonderful place to both visit and live in, which is why each of our experiences are thoughtfully built not only to connect you with local people and ways of life, but also positively impact the lives and communities that you encounter. For our Yerevan Gastrotrip, that means:

Highly curated menus: Each dish featured on this trip was selected for its significance to the culinary traditions of Armenia and the Armenian people.

Storytelling: We, along with our guides, have conducted extensive research on the history of each dish, ensuring that you leave this experience with a deeper understanding of Armenian cuisine and the role it plays in people’s lives.

Handpicked local guides, fairly paid: We partner with well-trained, knowledgeable guides to ensure that you have the best storytelling experience, and compensate them fairly for their high quality work.

Giving back: 1,000 AMD from the cost of your trip is donated to the Jermik Ankyun Foundation, a local organization that provides forever-homes and individualized care to young adults with special needs who have outgrown orphanages.

FAQ

  • Unfortunately, you cannot choose a different dish from the menus at each stop. All food is pre-ordered so that it is ready by the time we arrive.

  • If you are a vegetarian then absolutely yes. Some dishes in the lineup are already vegetarian-friendly. For those that are not, we have prepared vegetarian alternatives. Simply make sure to inform us if you or someone in your group is vegetarian when submitting your booking request. Unfortunately though, not all our vegetarian alternatives are vegan and dairy products are used extensively in Armenian cuisine so at this point we are unable to cater to vegans.

  • It will depend. Please let us know of any allergies and/or dietary restrictions anyone in your group may have using the booking request form, and we will see if we can remove/replace ingredients affected, though we cannot guarantee that there won’t be cross contamination.

  • Not very. The trip involves around 3 km of walking but with several stops (to eat) along the way, and we’ll go at a very gentle pace. Furthermore, downtown Yerevan, where our trips take place, is flat, so there won’t be any hills to climb.

  • Unfortunately, our regular itinerary is not and we do not currently have the capacity to alter it. However, in the future we plan on offering an alternative route that is wheelchair and disability friendly.

  • Everyone is welcome to participate. Children ages 6-12 are offered a reduced rate (by 50%), which our team will communicate to you upon receiving your booking request through the form above. Babies and toddlers 5 years of age and under can participate for free. For our future cocktail trip, all participants must be 18 years of age or older.

  • English, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian and Armenian. For other languages, please inquire with us through the form above.

  • Each trip can accommodate a maximum of 8 people. You may be joined by others if your group is less than 8. If you’d like a private tour, just select the option in the request form.

  • As much as we love pets, they are unfortunately not permitted as some of the eateries we visit do not allow them.

  • No, Armenian cuisine is not very spicy by nature. But that doesn’t mean it lacks flavor!

  • No need, we’ve included a fair tip for the staff at each of the eateries we visit in the price of your tour.

  • Of course! You’re welcome to order whatever you want, in addition to the food and drink included in the trips, though you must cover those costs yourself.
